Bourjois vs. L'Oreal - micellar waters

31. julij 2013

Hello again my lovely readers! Today I have for you a little comparison between Bourjois Micellar cleansing water and L'Oreal 3in1 Purifying Micellar solution. I wanted to try a micellar water to see what's all the fuss about since they are oh so popular at the moment, but I didn't want to splurge on Bioderma or should I say I wanted to find a cheaper yet efficient dupe for Bioderma. It's not like Bioderma is that expensive but it can get expensive, if you end up loving it and using a lot of it - that's what I'm afraid of. :)

I decided to compare them in four categories:

SCENT and CONSISTENCY - Both the Bourjois and the L'Oreal micellar water have no scent, though I have to say I detected just a hint of a scent in the Bourjois one (I have a very good nose so, if you don't, you won't smell anything). I'm very pleased that both products have no scent - these are supposed to be cleansing waters so I would be really mad, if they were fragranced. Both have a watery consistency (of course, they're cleansing waters). When applied on a cotton pad, the Bourjois one seemed to foam up a tiny bit, whilst I did not notice that with the L'Oreal one.

PACKAGING - I love both packagings - visually. The L'Oreal a bit more since it has a nice, modern, square design. But in terms of use, the Bourjois' packaging is better. The square shape of the L'Oreal micellar water looks nice but it just doesn't go well with the cap/opening and the water can spill everywhere, if you're not careful. However I found a way to make it work by holding the cotton pad really close to the opening so it immediately soaks up the water and nothing spills around.

PRICE - Both cleansing waters are sold at a great price - around the 5 € mark (some stores sell them for a bit more, some for a bit less). Both of these waters cost half the price of Bioderma (Bioderma sells for around 11 € for 250 ml).

PERFORMANCE - This is where it all comes down to. The L'Oreal cleansing water does a much much better job at removing makeup than the Bourjois one does. When I used the Bourjois water, it was struggling to remove my eye makeup and I don't wear waterproof mascara. I kind of had to rub at my eye to get it all off and there was still some left behind. It did a good job at removing face makeup but, as I said, failed at removing eye makeup which is a huge no-no for me. It also burned my eyes a bit which wasn't very pleasant.

The L'Oreal micellar water was a completely different story. I pore some on a cotton pad, placed it on my eye, held it there for a second and swiped away. In one to two swipes it takes away almost all eye makeup. It removes face makeup with ease. I can't say that it's purifying but it certainly didn't broke me out or caused more clogged pores. It did not irritate my eyes and I didn't have to rub at them to get the makeup of.

The L'Oreal micellar water is the best cleansing water/solution I have tried so far and even though I haven't tried Bioderma yet, I believe this is a very good dupe/cheaper version. However I use cleansing waters only when I travel or am not at home. I don't believe cleansing waters should replace cleansing creams/balms. You should always try to clean your face the best you can and not use something just because it's quicker and easier. I absolutely love my Liz Earle Cleanse&Polish as it does an even better job at removing makeup and is far better for my skin. :)

Have you tried any of these products or do you swear by something else (like Bioderma)? :)

  1. Super ocena.

  2. great post. that loreal is the one I mentioned in my email. glad to see it works well. now I really want to try it,

@Sandy - You should try it out, it works great! :D

  4. Meni je Vichy-eva še veno najboljša, edina po kateri me ne pečejo oči. :)

  5. Te pa še nisem probala... kakšna je pa cena? :)
